School quality

Well-being in schools

This research project involves a study of school climate, teacher and pupil well-being and the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on mental health.

The first study, scheduled for 2021, will measure the well-being of primary and secondary school teachers and pupils in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to estimate its impact on the well-being of these two social groups.

The second study will focus on the school climate, a concept that refers in particular to the feelings of safety and justice that prevail in the school, the quality of interpersonal relations, mutual support, collaboration and participation of pupils and teachers in their environment. In particular, it will investigate the relationship between teachers and pupils, which is proving to be essential in terms of its impact on well-being and its direct link with school drop-out.

The third study will focus on more individual, psychosocial variables that may be linked to the well-being of teachers and pupils. Self-esteem among teachers and pupils, perceptions of the teaching profession and the pupil profession, perceived control over one’s profession, and achievement goals are all examples.
