Professionalisation of teachers
The professional development of teachers is a key factor in guaranteeing the effectiveness of reforms in the field of education. It has been established that professionalising teachers helps to improve school quality. It is therefore no coincidence that this area is included in the reference framework for school quality drawn up by the Observatory. The thematic report devoted to the ‘professional development of teachers’ – scheduled for publication in 2024 – looks at all aspects that promote the professional development of teachers. Fundamental aspects such as initial training, recruitment procedures, working conditions, teacher profile and in-service training provision will be analysed in the light of available national data. Other topical issues such as the shortage of teachers, the attractiveness of the profession and the added value of collaborative practices will also be addressed, but will be the subject of an international comparison. All these analyses will culminate in concrete recommendations for education policy.
