Preparing young people for the challenges of the 21st century
As the world continues to change, particularly as a result of developments in information technology, communication, and artificial intelligence, schools are constantly faced with new challenges in terms of adaptation and transformation. It is essential to develop a common vision for the school system, i.e. to determine the key skills that are necessary to prepare young people for the challenges of the 21st century and to discuss the appropriateness of implementing these key skills in a national curriculum. In addition to essential cognitive skills, emphasis should also be placed on interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, as well as digital and media skills, in order to adopt a holistic approach. The goal is to educate citizens who are informed, engaged, autonomous, responsible, and competent in addressing complex societal challenges.
