“Success Story” – Giving a Voice to Children and Young People in Care

“Making the voices of children and young people in institutional care heard requires professionals to adopt a stance of deep empathy and humility toward their life paths and their resilience.”

This was one of the key messages shared by the observer Stephan Mackel during the round-table discussion held on March 11 2026 following the performance of “Success Story” at the Escher Theater, organised in collaboration with OKAJU.

The exchange provided an opportunity to better understand the lived realities of children and young people placed in child welfare institutions and the current challenges facing youth protection.

With “Success Story”, the Compagnie du Grand Boube turns its attention to a place that our society often tends to overlook: children’s residential homes. Known for its documentary approach, the group collected testimonies from about a dozen people from different generations who lived in residential care from the late 1950s to the present day.
