CoLab – Profile of the Young Adult in 2040

“The school system must prepare young people for a world characterised by rapid transformations, high uncertainty, and unprecedented societal challenges.”
As part of the launch of the CoLab organised by the SCRIPT on the modernisation of secondary education curricula, Pierre Stockreiser, observer at the OEJQS, delivered a keynote on 10 March 2026 at the Athénée de Luxembourg.
His intervention, intended to set the framework and stimulate reflection on the profile of the young adult in 2040, placed into perspective the societal, professional, and technological developments that already influence the purposes of secondary education today.
Given a context marked by uncertainty and the acceleration of transformations, he proposed a vision for the future curricular framework structured around two complementary principles: curricular stability and curricular openness.
Our thematic report “The role of education in preparing children and young people for the challenges of the 21st century”, which forms the basis of the keynote, can be consulted here (in German).
